Gujjuallnews.Shivanand Jha is new DGP of Gujarat Police. Gandhinagar: 1983-batch Indian Police Service(IPS) officer Shivanand Jha is new Director General of Police(DGP) of Gujarat. Jha would replace incharge DGP Pramodkumar as State police chief. Pramodkumar is retiring today from the service.Shivanand Jha, a 1983 batch IPS officer, was appointed the DGP and IGP of Gujarat on Wednesday noon. Jha took charge of the post late in the evening, from the outgoing in-charge DGP Pramod Kumar, who retired on Wednesday.Jha, who will continue to hold charge of the state intelligence bureau, is a native of Bihar.The Gujarat Police Department came into existence after Gujarat's separation from the Greater Mumbai state on 1 May 1960. The Gujarat Police Department is headed by Director General of Police (DGP-V.J DESAI). It has four Commissioners' offices : Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat.According to ex Director General of Police, RB Sreekumar, the Gujarat police is in the grip of "Modi-phobia". Another ex-DGP, R N Bhattacharya, has suggested that Gujarat police may have been compliant with Muslim killings during the riots.In India, the Director General of Police (DGP) is a three star rank and the highest ranking police officer in Indian States and Union Territories. All DGPs are Indian Police Service (IPS) officers.The Gujarat Government on Friday appointed retired bureaucrat V S Gadhavi as the new state Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), a post lying vacant since December last year. Gadhavi, a retired IAS officer, presently serves as one of the four State Information Commissioners of Gujarat Information Commission.The Municipal Commissioner of Ahmedabad is appointed by Gujarat Government to manage affairs of city of Ahmedabad. The terms of office is 3 years, which may be extended to further period of 3 years by government. The Incumbent Municipal commissioner is Shri Vijay Nehra, IAS Officer.
